![]() ORTING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TAKING THE PSATBy: Leon Matz
October 06, 2010
On October 13th about 200 Orting High School students will be taking the PSAT during first, second and third period. Across the country sophomores and juniors sign up to the take the PSAT test to: Receive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. Students can then focus their preparation on those areas that could most benefit from additional study or practice. Students see how their performance on the admissions test might compare with that of other students applying to college. Students enter the competition for scholarships from NMSQT (grade 11). The test helps to prepare students for the SAT/ACT. Students will become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions you will see on the SAT. Students will receive information from colleges when they check “yes†to the Student Search Service. Michelle Curry, Orting’s school superintendent is paying for all juniors to take the exam. Sophomores are encouraged to take the exam, but will need to pay a $18.00 fee to do so. To encourage the students to do their very best the junior’s advisories have combined to form 3 competitive groups (red, white, and black) with prizes for the winning group. Students are encouraged to use the test materials in PSAT bulletin to prepare for the test. Students should try to make sure they get eight hours of sleep the night before and that they have a good breakfast prior to coming to school on the 13th. |
