Big O Poker Run in Biker Friendly Orting!

The Big O Poker Run is right around the corner, Saturday July 21st is the date.  All preparation is done & 20+ volunteers have stepped up to help make the day run smoothly.

This year brings some significant changes compared to the last 4 years. The Orting Lions have joined forces with the Orting Eagles, ARIE 3480, and SSR, South Sound Riders, a loose knit group of like minded riders that love to ride and lend a hand to worthy causes when they can:  http://www.meetup.com/SouthSoundRiders/.

The Eagles helped get this thing going five years ago; but space to park the bikes is now concern, hence the move to Lions Field. One of the card stops and a great BBQ still happens at the Eagles. A huge Thank You to the Eagles, you rock!

The day starts at 6:30 with registration, any updated road conditions, a safety briefing & a prayer of thanks and asking God to watch over the riders.

At about 9am we head out for the Parade of Bikes, one lap around town, and then it's off to find the 7 card stops on their way around Mt. Rainier. There is also a shorter 60 mile course that some riders prefer. Either way, the riders have a smile on their faces when they return. The day ends at 4pm with the awarding of top hand prize, raffle prizes and door prizes. That's a great part of the day too. The prizes are generously donated by local and area businesses. The recipient of the proceeds always stays local, this year is the Orting Food banks turn, past recipients are the Senior Center, CIS, and the Orting Soldiers Colony Moral fund.

So you are invited to the Eagles or Lions to see what 200+ bikes look like, and enjoy a meal at either place... OR... check out the parade of bike about 9am from the city park, Wave to the folks too, make 'em feel welcome. Don't forget a camera. Looks like we'll have great weather this year!
