Orting School Board Selects Iris Lilley to Fill Board VacancyBy: Terry Van Zanten

In a unanimous vote on January 8, the Orting School Board selected Iris Lilley to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of District Director #3 David Egts. The Board wishes their former colleague David Egts well as he relocates to Arizona to pursue a new job opportunity.
Iris Lilley, in accordance with Washington State law, resides in Director District #3 and is a 13-year resident of Orting. She is an experienced paralegal and has over 22 years in the profession. She currently holds a position at Microsoft providing legal services on a broad range of issues related to product management, marketing, distribution, and software applications. Lilley looks forward to joining the Board and is eager to “work together to do a better job helping students reach their individual potential so that Orting graduates are prepared to enter the world, ready for whatever comes after high school.†The Board implemented a selection process dictated by state law and Board policy. After a two-week announcement period in which notices appeared in the Tacoma News Tribune and Orting News as well as announcements on the District’s web page and other communication channels, three applicants expressed interested in the position. A public meeting and interviews were held on January 8 to fill the vacancy. The Board is grateful and appreciative to all three applicants for his or her interest in serving Orting students. Lilley was sworn in at the Board’s regularly scheduled January 9 meeting. Her appointment will run through November 2015. At that time, the position will be placed on the ballot for a four-year term. |
