Fire Marshals Identify Cause of Orting House FireBy: Teresa McCallion
September 13, 2014
According to Pierce County Fire Marshals, the cause of a fire that significantly damaged a home in Orting Monday was electrical. The fire was reported at the 300 block of Meadow Lane just after 9 p.m. Orting Valley Fire and Rescue crews quickly called for a second alarm. They were joined by firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue, Graham Fire and Rescue and Central Pierce Fire and Rescue. The residence was evacuated when the firefighters arrived.
The fire was contained to a hallway and two bedrooms. “We got a good stop on it so it didn’t extend past that,†says Orting Valley Lieutenant Ryan Pickering. No other structures on the extensive property were damaged. One resident was treated at the scene, but was not transported to the hospital. No other injuries were reported. The fire marshals say that the source of the fire was an electrical cord running under a bed that shorted and ignited combustible items. |
