National School Bus Safety Week
By: Sandy Weymouth
October 20, 2015
Dear Orting Staff and Community, This year’s National School Bus Safety Week is October 19–23, 2015. This important event is intended to call attention to school bus safety and promote school bus transportation. This year’s theme is: “Be Smart – Be Seen, I wait in a safe place!” Orting School District’s transportation team plays a critical role in preparing all students for college, careers and life. They set the tone for the day as they greet students. I’ve heard our drivers welcome students by name and make a connection by knowing something personal about them. Our drivers ensure students arrive at school safe and ready to learn, and they are our students’ last contact with school each day. Their dedication and vigilance are instrumental to the transportation of those who are most precious to us – the students entrusted to our care. Washington State is known nationwide for its outstanding Pupil Transportation program, and almost half of Washington’s public school students ride school buses to and from school every day. Because of this dedication by transportation departments and the 10,900 authorized school bus drivers, Governor Jay Inslee has proclaimed October 19‒23, 2015, as “School Bus Safety Week” in Washington State. Please join me in showing appreciation to our amazing transportation team! Marci Dr. Marci Shepard Superintendent Orting School District
