June 16 at the LionsBy: Jerry Cowan
June 08, 2016
Morning all, here is the calendar for the rest of the year, as always it up for change at any given moment. At the last board meeting it was decided to change the routine for the summer. We had the first appetizer and desert meeting in place of the full dinner meeting with great success. The dinner started at 7 and was over by 8:15. We will be having 1 dinner meeting a month thru the summer and go to the original in the fall. We may pass on the 2nd board meeting as suggested by Larry Schoenbachler and just work on the fields and hall as needed. Randy Dey has been hosting the Hunters Safety classes for the second of possibly four months. He is utilizing both buildings due to dinner meetings and Boy Scouts. The classes hold up to 20 students. He being assisted by Instructors Rocky Watson, Bill Montgomery and Greg Niemela. Classes are held for four nights with the last being held in July or possibly August. The Orting Lions cooked for the Alumni Banquet again this year for the 2nd time. The proceeds for this goes to fund the Scholarship fund. The Installation dinner is coming up on the 18th with Chuck Nunnally cooking again this year. We will be swearing in new members that night.
As far as the Park goes the Lacrosse is done with their season, and as a Thank you they cleaned up the fields and parking lot for us. They will be BBQing at the park on the 14th for their season celebration. They started last year with 1 team and are up to 4 teams this year. We look forward to their success and a continuing relationship with them in years to come. With the close of school for the summer also the end of the ball season for t-ballers and little leaguers. Their season will be ending in the next 2 weeks. The Adult softball is playing on Friday nights from 6:30 until 8:00. The next tournament will be the Shultz tournament held on the 25th of June. 4 fields and the snack shack. This is a tournament that started under Spencer Wiltse and has been going for several years. We will need to prep the fields and operate the snack shack as he will be having approximately 12 teams for this tournament. As always Bull Puckey is coming up the 9th and 10th of July, so we will need to do the usual with the snack shack, umpires and field crew. When the hours for the tournament come out, they will be posted for planning. Andy from Rainier Rugby and his group were planning on touring the facilities tonight during the board meeting for their 2nd Rugby tournament coming up July 30th. They will be renting the fields, the kitchen and the back lawn area. They were exceptional renters last time and we are hoping to have a long term relationship with this group as, like Lacrosse, they show great respect for us and our property. As we are all volunteers, they know a little respect and appreciation goes a long way. At the end of the summer and the beginning of the football season Don Tracy will be taking over as the Park President. Don has been a great help, along with all those that have been working on the park, snack shack and the games. See you tonight at the board meeting. |
