Orting Student Awarded a $3,000 BECU Foundation Scholarship

The BECU Foundation awards $3,000 scholarships to 80 student-members The BECU Foundation has awarded Meaghan Oakes, an Orting resident, a $3,000 BECU Foundation scholarship. Meaghan Oakes Meagan Oakes, a nursing student at Pacific Lutheran University, volunteered to perform comfort rounds at Allenmore Hospital. “The goal of these rounds was to anticipate and attend to a client’s basic needs, thereby helping to create a more relaxing and comfortable hospital experience. I would visit each individual client within an assigned hospital wing to talk with them and provide comfort items such as personal supplies, clean linen, and handmade gifts from other volunteers.” She is among 80 students to receive the award. The scholarship recipients were chosen based on their academic performance and passion for helping others through volunteering. Since 1995, the BECU Foundation has awarded more than $2.2 million in scholarships to 950 student members.
