Historic, modernist, traditional, cottage seaside, exotic, tropical, classic Southern, farmhouse, prison, organic, and xeric—all are among the many types of gardens exquisitely photographed by Marion Brenner and accompanied by descriptions curated by Page Dickey.Each garden represents the intent, ingenuity, and artistic talent of its creator. Thoughtfully arranged in the book, they offer an amazing display of the unbounded resourcefulness of the American gardener and will inspire current and future garden enthusiasts across the globe.

"The book features eight of our Preservation Gardens—a small sampling of the many we have helped save for future generations to enjoy. There are also 42 examples of privately owned gardens that have opened their gates to communities through Open Days, our national garden visitation program,” says Jenny du Pont, president & CEO of the Garden Conservancy. “We chose the Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek, California, as our first project because of its artistry. Fast-forward 25 years to the current West Coast drought, and the educational value of preserving a model dry garden such as this becomes even more compelling.”

With a foreword by Colin Cabot, son of the late Frank Cabot who founded the Garden Conservancy, this book is a treasure. “Gardens stimulate all five senses.
