May I Share With You our Endorsements?

To begin with, I want to thank all City Council members, Commission Members, and volunteers for their dedication and service to our community. I hear so many good things about Orting.

In the up-coming election on August 4th, we don’t have to choose between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ candidates, instead we get to choose between ‘good’ and ‘even better’ ones for the Orting City Council.

This great country of ours gives us the opportunity to vote for the person we feel is best qualified to serve.  It also lets us freely express our opinions. These are freedoms that so many have valiantly fought for.

I feel that as Mayor I still have those same rights that every citizen has, so I want to share with you who I, and Jeannie, are supporting in the August 4th Primary:

For Position 1 on the Orting City Council I support Gwen Robson.  Gwen had served as the Administrative Assistant to the Mayor and to the City Administrator for more than 3 years. I found her to be extremely dedicated and hard working. She quietly accomplished much that will be of benefit to the city for years to come. She has long-term first-hand knowledge of the issues facing the City Council and Orting. She strongly supports the Police and Fire Departments and is against any thought of ‘de-annexing’. Orting deserves more than half a Fire Department.

For Position 5 on the Orting City Council I support Nicola McDonald.  Nicola and I served together on the City Council 2008-11. I appreciated how she would listen to both sides of an issue before drawing a conclusion. And yet, she also knew how to bring things to a conclusion, instead of discussing it forever.  I agree with her statement that she will “build on the strong foundations of our past while serving the best interests of Orting’s citizens with a commonsense vision for our future.”

Thank you for letting me share with you our choices for these two important positions.  And thank you for allowing me to serve as Mayor of Orting.
