July 13, 2016 Orting resident Renee’ Pitts was recently named 2016 Outstanding Member of the Year by her Union, the Washington Rural Letter Carriers Association. The award was presented to Renee’ at the Association's State Convention in Spokane in June. Renee’ was born and raised in the Tacoma/Graham area, and started working at the Post Office in 1994. She was interested in making things better for the rural carriers in her office, and became the local shop steward soon after being hired. She also was elected to the Board of the local chapter of her Union, first as vice president, and then serving several years as president.
As her career progressed, so did her Union involvement. It didn't take long for Renee’ to be recognized for her talents, and she was appointed to a position representing rural letter carriers throughout much of the southwestern part of Washington State. She was chosen to work with Post Office management in the Seattle District on a number of committees designed to improve the safety and working conditions of carriers throughout the State. Renee’ has served on the State Board of the WARLCA, including being twice elected as State President. She has also been active at the national level with the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, training state officers from around the country on legislative issues that affect the Post Office. Most recently, Renee’ was one of two officers nationally chosen to work with the USPS Administration in Washington DC to completely overhaul the training procedures for new hires.
The Washington Rural Letter Carriers Association is honored to present it's 2016 Outstanding Member of the Year award to Renee’ Pitts. Thank you and Congratulations, Renee’.
